We had barely left the Parador when Dan and Jill stopped. They thought they had left their cell phone behind. I had been following the van (Sergi) as usual but because he had to go back to get the phone, I remained with the main group. Although I was still slower, I was able to keep the group in sight and thus not lag too much. We stopped further along the road to check in with Sergi. He had not found the phone. I suggested they just call the phone to hear it ring. It's as good a way as any to locate a misplaced cell phone. Of course that worked... the phone was packed in one of their suitcases. Problem solved, we were off once again. The roads ahead were little different from those we'd just navigated but the group really started "giving it" and soon they were in the distance. I could still see them at that point so it wasn't a big deal but in a matter of a moment, I somehow lost sight of them. Had I been admiring the scenery too much and missed an obvious turn off? I sped up a lot (for me) to at least catch sight of them again. No such luck. I finally stopped at Alcocer to double check that I hadn't goofed up... I phoned both Martin and Sergi. Martin didn't answer but Sergi finally did. At first he wasn't sure of my location because it didn't show up on his map. Sergi told me to wait where I was and told Martin and company to go on ahead. Turns out I WAS on the right road. I had taken my Michelin map out and double checked. Too bad I didn't have my GPS to reassure me earlier or a tank bag to put a map in for the same reason. Whatever. By the time Sergi appeared, I know the group was miles and miles ahead. I felt guilty as usual because Sergi must have had to speed BIG time to get to me when he did. Yeah... just what I wanted to do... be a pain in the ass on the last day... Oh well...
